Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at mintequinetherapy@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Hydrotherapy: water is an electrical conductor which does not allow current to penetrate the body.  Please wait at least 24 hours before and after a treatment before using hydrotherapy.  Your horse can have a slight rinse the day of the treatment but please make sure they have a couple hours to completely dry before the treatment is started.
  • Shockwave, PEMF, Laser, Magnawave, etc.:  Other electrical modalities will negate the effects of the Acuscope.  These modalities often overstimulate the nervous system where as the Acuscope normalizes the nervous system.  Wait 72 hours before and after a treatment if you choose to use these other modalities.
  • Post Treatment Physical Re-Evaluation Tests: Examples of this would be things such as flexion tests.  You should not test to the maximum extent.
  • Riding With the First Initial Series (3 consecutive days):  You can ride before the first treatment but please try to take the next couple of days off.

Treating anywhere in the body gives a 2-5% nerve regeneration rate.  Treating on the injected area gives a 99% regeneration rate.  So, the answer is yes and no.  If a tail has been nerved for showing purposes, it is up to the owner to weigh the benefits with the regeneration rate in mind.  If your horse has undergone a neurectomy surgery to stop pain in an area, it is probably best to weigh the benefits with your vet and avoid treating the specific area that was "nerved".

No.  At this point in time, not enough research has been done on pregnant mares to comfortably allow them to be treated.
